FILM
The King Tide: Opening Cue
A highly acclaimed, atmospheric original score for The King Tide, a 2023 Canadian folk-mystery/thriller film directed by Christian Sparkes. Filmed in the isolated, coastal community of Keels, Newfoundland, the movie follows a remote island village that becomes fanatically protective of a mysterious child with miraculous healing powers.
"... a terrific score by Andrew Staniland, which is at times orchestral and swelling and at others creepy and John Carpenter-esque."

CHORAL
Dark Star Requiem: Zero Six One
a critically acclaimed, JUNO-nominated operatic oratorio composed by Andrew Staniland with an original libretto by poet Jill Battson. MIXED MEDIA
Blackwood Sketches: for viola and electronics
an award-winning electroacoustic composition by Andrew Staniland for solo violist Kate Read, taking home Classical Composition of the Year at the 2024 East Coast Music Awards. The piece is a haunting sonic translation of legendary Newfoundland printmaker David Blackwood’s iconic artwork, Fire Down on the Labrador. By blending warm viola motifs with sub-bass drones and live electronics, the music brilliantly captures the vast, chilly atmosphere of a burning vessel on an icy sea.
ELECTRONIC
The Laws of Nature
a critically acclaimed electronic crossover album by Andrew Staniland that translates human brainwaves directly into music. Utilizing innovative EEG neuro-technology, the project bridges neuroscience and sound design across two suites, rendering brain data from moving dancers into warm, enveloping, and cinematic audio blocks. Mixed in Dolby Atmos spatial surround sound, the groundbreaking project earned major industry recognition, including a 2026 JUNO Award nomination for Classical Composition of the Year. It additionally secured three 2026 East Coast Music Award (ECMA) nominations, recognizing the album for Instrumental Release of the Year and Classical Composer of the Year, alongside a nomination for Dancer Portrait No. 4 as Electronic Release of the Year.
